Thank you Irene ! I am up and away now - this is just about the best thing I've come across on the computer. Plan to let a number of friends and family know about it - a wealth of good ole Aussie memorabilia and nostalgia. Best wishes for the continuance of this little gem ! Not so little really. Rhian.

Errol and Irene,
What an absolutely fabulous website! I came across it whilst searching for something else and was delighted when I found it, the Australiana bit and the graphics are superb, as are the bits of poetry and other stuff. Just brilliant. I have sent your website address to my penfriend in Victoria. I've just come back from a holiday in Australia, a birding trip and to visit my long-standing penfriend of 30 years and just loved it, part of our stay was in Queensland as well, at O'Reillys
*which I think is just up the road from you. I have sent your website address to my friend in Victoria.
One thing  about the website though, I'm a little confused over the copyright thing ...is it alright to copy and print out the odd recipe here and there for personal use only? (Yes...Errol)
With best regards
Sue

Hi Irene & Errol,

I have just accidentally surfed upon your site - great stuff!!

Many thanks it will certainly help me fill in the 'Australian' (English) recipe gaps from the 1950's & 1960's.

History - I was born in Wagga Wagga in 1950 of 'New Australian' Latvian refugee parents and I am currently attempting to construct my family history via food - simply because the growing and eating of 'Wog' food played an immense & integral part of mine and my siblings childhood.

Thanx again for your efforts.

Hello Irene,

I am "Blown Away" by how quickly my request was responded to! I have been online for 2 1/2 hrs looking for this recipe to no avail. I decided to join up to Old Aussie Recipes and half an hour later I have the recipe! Truly the best $23 spent, just to see the look on my friends face when I tell her I have it! Many, many thanks to you.

Sincerely Kirstin.

Greetings!

I just found your sight! What a storehouse of information!  We are a community of families who are planning/working towards, sending a group to Australia for World Youth Day, and thought it would be fun to have an Australian theme this year for Christmas. (Good way to study the country and give useful gifts for the coming trip this summer.) Also needed food, information, and other ideas to draw from, thanks to you we have them in abundance!
Thank You!

Just found your web of Old Australian Recipes and all the other wonderful stuff. Having lived in Oz for a few years we really appreciate all that goes on over there. We have many a story to tell, all with love, including our stint at the Carter Werribee Egg Farm!!!! Is that place still going? I tried to print off your pages on the web – but all I got were blanks. Have you published a book with all the ingredients of your web? I would dearly love to know.

With very sincere thanks, particularly for bringing back happy, harrowing and funny experiences.

Site Comment

It is wonderful to be Australian and to have an old time based website is such a pleasure. It is a site that even the younger folk can look at and wonder how the oldies survived. I love to see recipes and remedies and the recipes in 1/4lbs etc (pre decimal) now that is great. Keep up the great site I know I have had a ball looking at it and will continue to as long as the site is there. Again thank you very much for the old memorabilia.

This site is a wonderful treat. It features old Australian recipes as well as Australian humour and history. The site is well laid out and the colour scheme and few graphics make it easy on the eye and quick to load.

Comments from the The Regional Living Australia Blog "As part of my searches looking for material for my Australian Regional Food - Looking Back series I found a rather nice site, Old Aussie Food Recipes, subtitled "Recipes, Cooking and Delicious Meals the old time way in Australia." "Here I was caught by the description: Like yesterday I remember the glorious aromas coming from my Mum's kitchen. Sponge cake or a scone topped casserole and veges, oven hot scones or damper, hot soup or the look of a glorious bowl of home made ice cream and fruit topping. The site is well worth a browse by anyone interested in Australian cooking."
