History request

I have had a request from Murray of Perth as to the sizes of the large bags (or sacks) of flour and sugar available around the forties and fifties. Can anyone help please? Just email this site.

Greetings!
I just found your sight! What a storehouse of information!  We are a community of families who are planning/working towards, sending a group to Australia for World Youth Day, and thought it would be fun to have an Australian theme this year for Christmas. (Good way to study the country and give useful gifts for the coming trip this summer.) Also needed food, information, and other ideas to draw from, thanks to you we have them in abundance!
Thank You!

Can anyone help Carol? If so please email this site....Errol

Dear Errol and Irene, I have just discovered your web page and it indeed brings back memories. For many years, I have been trying to locate the few lines I loved when I was a young child at school. (back nearly 50 years). About a fried mosquito on a piece of bread! Does anyone know it? I thank you for your help.

Sincerely Carol

Just found your web of Old Australian Recipes and all the other wonderful stuff. Having lived in Oz for a few years we really appreciate all that goes on over there. We have many a story to tell, all with love, including our stint at the Carter Werribee Egg Farm!!!! Is that place still going? I tried to print off your pages on the web – but all I got were blanks. Have you published a book with all the ingredients of your web? I would dearly love to know.

With very sincere thanks, particularly for bringing back happy, harrowing and funny experiences.

Hi Irene,
What a wonderfully informative site.
I'm sure visitors to our library website will love the recipes - I've added it to our Online Information & links section - http://www.erl.vic.gov.au/info/hobbies.htm#cooking. Thanks so much!

Request from Errol

BBC TV Comedy Series "Last of the Summer Wine".  I have been greatly entertained by a couple of the early series of this BBC comedy. I have Series One and Two only but have found it difficult to purchase any others in Australia. Any Aussies out that can help me? Please email Errol...Thanks

Site Comment

It is wonderful to be Australian and to have an old time based website is such a pleasure. It is a site that even the younger folk can look at and wonder how the oldies survived. I love to see recipes and remedies and the recipes in 1/4lbs etc (pre decimal) now that is great. Keep up the great site I know I have had a ball looking at it and will continue to as long as the site is there. Again thank you very much for the old memorabilia.

This site is a wonderful treat. It features old Australian recipes as well as Australian humour and history. The site is well laid out and the colour scheme and few graphics make it easy on the eye and quick to load.

Comments from the The Regional Living Australia Blog "As part of my searches looking for material for my Australian Regional Food - Looking Back series I found a rather nice site, Old Aussie Food Recipes, subtitled "Recipes, Cooking and Delicious Meals the old time way in Australia." "Here I was caught by the description: Like yesterday I remember the glorious aromas coming from my Mum's kitchen. Sponge cake or a scone topped casserole and veges, oven hot scones or damper, hot soup or the look of a glorious bowl of home made ice cream and fruit topping. The site is well worth a browse by anyone interested in Australian cooking."
